1 cup baking molasses
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 cups water -- boiling
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix the molasses, baking soda and water and let cool. Cut the remianing
ingredients to form a crumb, reserving one cup of the crumbs. Mix the
remaining crumbs with the molasses mixture, it will be lumpy. Pour into a
ungreased 9 x 13 pan and sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake at 350 degrees
for 40 to 50 minutes.
